The first slot machine was invented by a 29 year-old Mechanic. Charles Fey was the first person to manufacture the first machine in 1887. In the beginning, the first slot machines were manufactured by hand by Mr Fey, and rather than selling his machines, he 'sited' them. He would place his new fangled machines in public places and keep half the money they made. This not only made him the inventor, but he was also the first proprietor of the slot machines. His first machine was small, compact, and would look familiar to any modern-day person who looked at it.
This was the first three reel slot machine, the Liberty Bell. it had three reels, with each reel having ten symbols on it, including a 'Liberty Bell' per wheel. Ten nickels was awarded as a jackpot if three 'Liberty Bells' showed up on the payline. Modern day slot machines are more or less use the same principles as the original Liberty Bell. These days, modern machines are electronic and not mechanical. |
